Home Minister Vangalapudi Anita has strongly refuted YCP accusations that the government is neglecting and reducing security of former Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy. She asserted that he is being given security at the level of a Chief Minister, that he is no more a Chief Minister.
She wondered why he was afraid of his security. Is he fearing that people will beat him if he comes to the public?, she asked. She visited Rajahmundry Central Prison and opened the newly established restaurant and box crickets in the jail.
She turn emotional after visiting Sneha Barrack, where Chief Minister Chandrababy Naidu was kept during the regime of the previous government. She said that no one should be in a situation where innocent people go to jail.
Enquiring about prisoners’ welfare in the jail, she said that it was painful for the prisoners to be punished for the mistakes they made in a moment of time. Stating that many prisoners are asking about announcing amnesty to their on their good behaviour in the prisons.
The Home Minister said that the previous government had ignored providing amnesty to the prisoners. She assured that the government will take a decision on it very soon. She expressed concern that the prisons are overcrowded beyond their capacity.
She said that prisons were built during the British era and the wall of the jail is on the verge of collapse. She ordered immediate repairs.
She said that most of the prisoners in Visakhapatnam prison are in ganja cases. While there are 1700 prisoners are there across the state in ganja cases, 1,000 of them are in Visakhapatnam only and only 376 in Rajahmundry. Anitha assured jail staff that they will be provided health security at par with the police personnel. She also interacted with women prisoners and asked about their problems.
