Producer Bunny Vas Urges Focus on Bringing Audiences Back To Theaters

Tollywood film producer Bunny Vas has issued a significant caution regarding the growing trend of early OTT releases impacting the traditional theatrical business. Addressing producers and exhibitors, he stressed the need to prioritize strategies that draw audiences back to theaters rather than focusing solely on revenue-sharing percentages.

Bunny Vas highlighted that releasing films on OTT platforms within 28 days of their theatrical debut could lead to a drastic reduction in single-screen cinemas, with up to 90 percent potentially shutting down in the next four to five years. He urged industry stakeholders, including leading actors, to rethink their release schedules and production frequency to sustain theatrical viewership. He further pointed out that closure of single screens would result in producers receiving only about 43 percent of their theatrical revenue from multiplexes, underscoring the urgent need to preserve the traditional cinema ecosystem.
