The Hollywood Reporter, which recently launched its Indian edition, The Hollywood Reporter India, has featured renowned Telugu film producers Priyanka Dutt and Swapna Dutt on its latest cover. Daughters of veteran producer Ashwini Dutt, the duo participated in a special discussion titled Women in Entertainment, alongside actresses Nayanthara, Alia Bhatt, and filmmaker Zoya Akhtar.
Insights on Career Beginnings
Reflecting on their early careers, the panelists shared the advice they wished they had received.
Swapna Dutt recalled her father’s words: “You don’t always know where you’re headed, and that is the hardest part.” She expressed gratitude for the guidance that helped her navigate the industry.
Alia Bhatt stated, “I wish someone had told me that change is the only constant. Things don’t always go as planned, but learning from mistakes and communicating effectively is essential.”
Zoya Akhtar remarked that she would have benefited from knowing early on that “it takes a long time to establish oneself in this industry.”

Professional Challenges and Lighthearted Moments
Discussing professional challenges, Priyanka Dutt admitted to occasionally concealing budget concerns from director Nag Ashwin to avoid stressing him. “Every time he asked if the budget was okay, I would say ‘yes’ to keep him focused on the creative aspects,” she revealed.
Swapna Dutt acknowledged that minor deceptions are sometimes necessary in the industry to maintain harmony.
In a lighter moment, Alia Bhatt shared a personal anecdote: “Whenever I am asked how long it will take me to reach an event, I always say ‘five minutes’—even if that’s never the case,” she said with a laugh.
