Priyamani Clarifies Tamil Series ‘The Good Wife’ is a Cultural Adaptation, Not a Copy

Actress Priyamani has stated that the upcoming Tamil web series The Good Wife, directed by Revathi, is not a direct replica of the American legal drama of the same name. She emphasised that the series has been adapted with changes that reflect the cultural and traditional values of Tamil Nadu.

The series is set to stream on JioCinema from July 4 in seven languages — Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, and Bengali. Priyamani, who plays the lead role, described the show as a family and legal drama that portrays the struggles of a woman who takes charge of her household after her husband is arrested in a sex scandal. “This series is a tribute to single mothers and their resilience,” she said.

Sharing her personal perspective, Priyamani said, “In my view, a ‘good wife’ is a woman who successfully balances her many roles as a wife, mother, and homemaker.” She also recalled the sacrifices her mother made for her acting career, including taking voluntary retirement from her job as a bank manager to support her. “That decision was made so I wouldn’t feel alone in the industry. That makes her a ‘good wife’ too,” she added.

The promotional material for The Good Wife has received a positive response, hinting at a compelling blend of family dynamics and courtroom drama. Priyamani, a familiar face on OTT platforms, previously appeared in the Hindi series The Family Man and the Telugu film Bhama Kalapam. In the new series, actor Sampath Raj plays her husband, while Aari Arujunan appears as a lawyer.
