Prajwal Revanna Will Be Arrested At Airport, Says Karnataka Home Minister

Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of sexually abusing several women, will be arrested as soon as he arrives at the airport, said Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday.

Parameshwara’s statement comes amid speculation about the suspended JD(S) leader’s return to India. Two days ago, Prajwal released a video statement promising that he would appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the cases against him, on May 31.

According to sources in the SIT, the 33-year-old grandson of JDS supremo HD Deve Gowda is expected to land in Bengaluru in the small hours of May 31.The Hassan MP has booked a return flight ticket to Bengaluru from Munich on May 30. The SIT is maintaining vigil at the Kempegowda airport here to arrest him as soon as he lands, they said.

“All necessary measures have to be taken, as a warrant has been issued against him (Prajwal). He has to be arrested. SIT is waiting, they will arrest him and will take his statement, and their (SIT) process will start,” the minister said while speaking to reporters.

Asked if Prajwal would be arrested at the airport on landing, he said, “It (arrest) has to be done there (at airport), as a warrant has been issued. So he will have to be arrested.”

The MP, who is seeking re-election as the NDA candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha segment, fled to a foreign country on May 18, as soon as the news broke out that the Karnataka State Commission for Women requested Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to order an investigation into the huge cache of explicit videos showing several women being sexually assaulted allegedly by him.

He left a day after his constituency Hassan went to polls, and is still at large.  Interpol, following a request by the SIT via the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), issued a ‘Blue Corner Notice’ seeking information on his whereabouts.

A Special Court for Elected Representatives issued an arrest warrant on May 18 against Prajwal Revanna, following an application moved by the SIT.
