In his address, Modi lauded the ancient Nalanda University for its rich legacy and emphasized the importance of the new International University in revitalizing India’s soft power on the global stage. Reflecting on the historical resilience of Nalanda, which survived attacks on its libraries in the 12th century, Modi emphasized the enduring nature of knowledge despite adversities.
The Prime Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s higher education system to be more research-oriented and advanced. Encouraging students to embrace curiosity and courage, Modi expressed his vision for India to emerge as a leading hub for knowledge and education worldwide.
During the inauguration, PM Modi visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Nalanda Mahavihara, underscoring the historical and cultural significance of the region. The event was attended by ambassadors from 17 nations, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, highlighting the international importance of Nalanda University.
With a focus on promoting education and research, the establishment of the new campus aligns with the Nalanda University Act, 2010, which was a result of a decision made during the second East Asia Summit in 2007. PM Modi’s visit to Nalanda underscores the government’s commitment to advancing India’s academic legacy and fostering global collaborations in education.
