Perni Nani Likely To Be North Andhra Coordinator

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is making strategic changes in North Andhra as part of its organizational revamp. The party has already appointed in-charges for several Assembly constituencies and regional coordinators. Previously, Vijay Sai Reddy was named the regional coordinator for North Andhra, but before officially assuming the role, he announced his retirement from active politics, leaving the position vacant.

Now, the party has started deliberating upon the face. The rumors had been that senior leader and former minister Botsa Satyanarayana would be taking charge. As he is already the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council and in-charge of the party affairs in the Godavari districts, the leadership also thinks of giving some other person for the post.

Outgoing minister and Machilipatnam incharge Perni Nani has emerged as the top contender for that position. Though he did not have much to do in the recent past due to some law cases on his family members, party sources disclosed that there was a discussion to make him return to active politics. The YSRCP feels that his appointment would help the party consolidate its position in North Andhra, and the social background of his community is also seen as a strategic advantage.

Historically, the role of regional coordinator in North Andhra has been held by leaders from the Reddy community. Vijay Sai Reddy occupied the position from 2016 to 2022, followed by YV Subba Reddy until 2024. Though the party initially reappointed Vijay Sai Reddy, his unexpected political exit created a leadership vacuum. This time, YSRCP is reportedly keen on appointing someone from a different community to expand its voter base.

As speculations were growing, YSRCP has called for an important meeting with the North Andhra leaders on 12th of this month. Official confirmation regarding the appointment of Perni Nani may come in this meeting, according to sources. The impact of this decision remains to be seen in the prospects of the party in the region.
