The coalition government, which had pledged during the elections to continue the volunteer system set up by the previous YSRCP government, has yet to fulfill this promise. Volunteers have been neglected, with their services going unrecognized and their salaries unpaid, leading to significant criticism. In response to these concerns, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan recently met with Sarpanch associations and provided clarity on the government’s stance.
Speaking with Sarpanch leaders in Amaravati, Pawan Kalyan addressed the ongoing discussions surrounding the volunteer system. Responding to requests from Sarpanches to abolish the system, the Deputy CM explained that while the current government intends to support volunteers, the previous administration had misled them.
Pawan Kalyan emphasized that the volunteer system could only be dismantled if the volunteers were officially employed. He clarified that since they are not formal employees, the issue at hand is primarily technical. His comments shed light on why the government has distanced itself from the volunteer system and raised questions about its future. It remains to be seen whether the government will issue formal directives regarding the continuation of the volunteer system.
