The Parliament Budget Session is scheduled to be held from January 31 to April 4, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman set to table her eighth straight budget on February 1. The first part of the Budget 2025 will be held between January 31 to February 13, while the second part will commence on March 10 and conclude on April 4.
In line with the convention, the session will start with President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on January 31, followed by the tabling of the economic survey.
“The Fourth Session of the Eighteenth Lok Sabha will commence on Friday, January 31, 2025. Subject to exigencies of Government Business, the Session is likely to conclude on Friday, April 4, 2025,” an official notification from the Lok Sabha Secretariat said on Friday.
The first part of the Budget Session will have nine sittings when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will respond to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address and Sitharaman will reply to the discussion on the budget.
After Parliament’s recess break to examine the budget proposals, the House will reconvene on March 10 to discuss the demands for grants put forth by various ministries before the completion of the budgetary process in a cumulative 27 sittings over the course of the session.
Earlier Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman concluded month-long consultations with various stakeholders, including representatives of the industry and social sectors, as part of the budget preparation exercise.
This will be Sitharaman’s second full-fledged Budget in Modi 3.0, and her eighth budget presentation in Parliament. She has presented six annual and two interim budgets under the NDA government’s consecutive terms in power.
So far, former Prime Minister Morarji Desai set a record of presenting budgets for 10 times, followed by P Chidambaram 9 times. But as a Women Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman set her own record.
