Actor Vijay Deverakonda has stated that he now accepts film projects only when he is fully satisfied with the script. Speaking ahead of the release of his upcoming film Kingdom, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Vijay said that his approach to choosing roles has evolved significantly over the years, shaped by personal experiences and industry learning.
“There was a time when I couldn’t say no even to scripts I didn’t like. That wasn’t easy, especially for someone without a film family background,” Vijay said. “Actors from film families often have the comfort of rejecting projects they don’t connect with. Today, I too have reached a stage where I can make decisions based on conviction. I take this responsibility seriously—whether it’s about the investment, the director’s career, or the love shown by fans. I move forward only when I’m fully convinced.”
Vijay revealed that director Gowtam Tinnanuri had narrated two stories, and he chose Kingdom over the other, which he felt was thematically similar to a recently released film. Although confident that their project would have been completed first, he said he opted out of that storyline on ethical grounds.
Commenting on industry camaraderie, Vijay shared that Jr NTR promptly agreed to provide the voiceover for the Kingdom teaser. “This culture of supporting one another strengthens our bonds,” he said. The film, which stars Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead, is slated for theatrical release on July 31.
