IPS officer Shivadhar Reddy took charge as Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) on Wednesday amidst the Vedic mantras of scholars. Later, he spoke to the media and said that his first challenge is the local body elections.
He said that they are preparing to complete the elections peacefully. There are 17,000 vacancies in the police department. He said that steps will be taken to complete those appointments.
The DGP said that they will work more efficiently by using technology with basic policing. Reddy said he will stress the modernisation of the police department and recruitment during his tenure. “We have a strong team and will make extensive use of technology at the ground level to ensure smooth conduct of elections,”he said.
Speaking of Maoism in Telangana, Reddy said that recently, Maoist leaders expressed willingness to give up the path of armed struggle. He urged the Maoists to be part of mainstream society. “Their ideology has failed, and those who surrender will be given necessary support,” the DGP added.
He appealed to the Maoists to come into the mainstream of public life without any hesitation without fear of being harassed by the police. Many people are already coming out of the party. Recent Central Committee member Kavithakka has also surrendered. He said that talks with the Maoists are unnecessary when they do not have a problem here. The DGP revealed that the Maoists themselves are saying that the people’s struggle is not successful.
Reddy also stressed the upgradation of skills in the Telangana police force. “Rather than only increasing the number of police stations, our focus will be on upgrading the skills of personnel. Vacancies in specialized wings will be filled with experts,” he added.
He clarified that there will be full cooperation with the Cyber Security and Eagle teams. They said that they will improve the basic policing & visual policing monitoring system. ‘All we have is the khaki book.. We don’t know about the pink book. We will take action if anyone posts on social media that harms the personality of others,’ warned the new DGP Shivdhar Reddy.
