“New RBI Governor Announced: Big Leadership Change Ahead!”

The Government of India has officially appointed Sanjay Malhotra, Secretary of the Revenue Department, as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The appointment comes as the term of the current RBI Governor, Shaktikanta Das, is set to end shortly.  

Shaktikanta Das initially assumed the role of RBI Governor in 2018. Though his first term concluded in 2021, the central government extended it by an additional three years. With this term also ending on December 10, the government has now named Sanjay Malhotra as the successor. The appointment received approval from the Cabinet Appointments Committee.  

Sanjay Malhotra, a 1990 batch officer from the Rajasthan cadre, will take on the responsibilities as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He is set to begin a three-year term starting December 11.
