Nellore Court Grants Police Custody of Former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy

YSRCP leader and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy has been dealt a major blow as the Nellore court granted police permission to put him into custody. After this order, Kakani will remain in police custody for three days on which he will be interrogated in the presence of his attorney.

Kakani, who was a minister in the YSRCP government, is now under investigation for suspected illegal quartz mining operations in Nellore district. Even after a series of notices were given to him to appear for questioning, he initially agreed to cooperate but went underground just a few days after the notices were served. He was subsequently arrested in Bengaluru and brought back for remand hearings.

The court, however, adjourned the hearing of his bail application to June 9. In the evening, the court approved the police’s request for custody to continue the investigation.
