Nara Lokesh Defends Dubai Visit

Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh addressed criticism from YSRCP leaders regarding his recent visit to Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy match between India and Pakistan. Speaking in the Legislative Council, Lokesh stated that watching an India-Pakistan match is a significant experience for many, and he attended the match out of personal interest. He emphasized that his patriotism was a key reason for attending but expressed disappointment over being ridiculed for it.

During his visit, Lokesh met ICC Chairman Jay Shah and discussed plans to construct a cricket stadium in Amaravati that would surpass the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He stated that Jay Shah had agreed to support the project, aiming to develop India’s largest cricket facility in the state.

Lokesh further revealed that he studied the Ahmedabad stadium’s construction cost and its multipurpose usage. He noted that Shah advised Andhra Pradesh to build a similar multi-functional venue. Additionally, Lokesh observed stadium management strategies in Dubai, including seating arrangements and infrastructure quality, to incorporate best practices into the Amaravati project.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to sports development, Lokesh stated that discussions were held with the SAP chairman and the Andhra Cricket Association president. He reiterated that the state government is focused on promoting cricket and other sports at the grassroots level to nurture young talent.
