The party’s general secretary and minister Nara Lokesh has emerged as a decisive focal point at the party’s annual Mahanadu begins in Kadapa on Tuesday. Though he has been playing very key role both in the party and also in the government, for the first time he is seen prominently in deciding the agenda of the conference. Most of the discussions at Mahanadu are likely to be centered around Lokesh proposals.
The party has already accepted his proposal that no one in the party should hold the same post for more than three consecutive terms and has also announced that he will now give up the post of party general secretary in the Mahanadu. That is why the argument to make him the party’s working president has been going on in the party circles.
Though in the party bylaws there is no provision for `workign president’ position, party insiders says that already stage is set to create such a post for him. In this order, many senior leaders are supporting him.
Speaking on this issue, TDP senior leader and party politburo member Ashok Gajapathiraju said that change is inevitable with time. He said that he wants change to come in the party too. He indirectly hinted at this proposal by stating that Lokesh has the qualities to take the party forward.
He said that there was a lot of bad publicity against Lokesh before 2019, but he proved himself through his struggles by facing all that and being in the opposition. He said that he has the qualities to take the party forward. Irrigation Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu said that TDP need a young leadership to lead the party for the next 25 years.
Along with Lokesh, it is known that his team, who have been playing key roles in the party and the government, are going to be given key positions in the party after the Mahanadu. In a way, the entire party leadership is now likely to be under Lokesh’s watch.
Especially since the coalition government came to power in the state, there is a campaign that a close associate of Lokesh turned as a key functionary both in the government and also in the party, without any formal position. He has been reportedly piratically giving directions on all major decisions and also monitoring movements of key files in the government.
Already, several minister are commenting that from power projects to transfers no work is being done in the government without his intervention, and he is being called `Kim’. It is believed that he has a chance of being sent to the Rajya Sabha next year, in addition to a key position in the party.
