Minister for Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar has exposed a big scam in his department. Soon after he was allocated the ministry, he inspected the ration storage warehouses in Tenali of Guntur district. Later he checked in Mangalagiri as well.
During his inspection he found that the weight was less than the specified quantity. In the ration, sugar given to the poor, kandipappu and oil packets given to Anganwadis were found to be of low weight.
Immediately, he ordered a stop to the distribution of kandipappu, sugar, oil and other packets across the state. He directed officials to submit a comprehensive report within a week. Nadendla said that the civil supplies department will be cleansed.
He said that this is a huge scandal in the state and the Civil Supplies Department will be purged. Before that, he had a meeting with the officials at the Civil Supplies Commissionerate in Vijayawada. On this occasion, the officials gave him a powerpoint presentation.
The new government also stepped into the ministerial field and conducted inspections and it was found that each packet was 50-100 grams less. The authorities are acting like it is no big deal. It is valid for them to justify themselves by saying that there is no difference when giving such a large amount.
Nadendla found that there is a large-scale exploitation of the ration given to the poor by the Civil Supplies Department and the supply of essentials to Anganwadis and hostels. There is a difference not only in weight but also in prices. All this is not unknown to the authorities. He deplored that during the last five years no one in the department was serious about observing such severe loopholes.
He estimated that more than Rs 200 crore was looted iIn the supply of oil and pulses. There is also a huge difference in the weight of the bags of rice supplied to the dealers. Each bag is being sent at the rate of 50 kg without weighing. Actually the weight is less by 5-8 kg per bag. However, the dealers are not paying attention due to the threats and harassment of the authorities.
