Discussions are underway in GHMC to move a no-confidence motion against city mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi. With this, the politics of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, which is due for elections in a few months, has become interesting.
While BRS leaders are discussing the no-confidence motion against the city mayor, some BJP corporators have announced that if BRS corporators really move no-confidence in the mayor, they will unconditionally support the no-confidence motion.
On the other hand, Congress corporators have launched a campaign saying that they will lose if they move with no-confidence. Meanwhile, a secret meeting of BRS leaders was held at the house of Talasani Srinivas Yadav, a former minister, senior MLA and key political leader in the city. It is learned that the possibilities of moving a no-confidence motion against the GHMC mayor were discussed in this meeting.
Whose strength is it if no-confidence is taken now? It is learnt that the party leaders are of the opinion that the people of the city will know who did what, and thus there will be a possibility of full support for the party, and that they can take all of that to the people in the upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, BJP corporators are provoking BRS leaders to move no-confidence motion. Recalling that they have been alleging both BRS and Congress parties are one, BJP Corporator Shravan Kumar said if they are really against Congress let them make a no-confidence motion against the Mayor.
Shravan clarified that the mayor’s no-confidence motion will make it clear that the Congress, BRS and AIMIM parties work together, and this resolution will reveal to what extent who will act honestly towards the people. Currently, there are only three Congress corporators officially in the GHMC.
In the last elections, the then Chief Minister KCR surprisingly chose senior party leader Dr. Keshav Rao’s daughter Gadwal Vijayalakshmi as the mayor. However, when the government changed in the state, she joined the Congress party along with her father. When the Congress came to power in the state, many corporators from BRS and BJP joined the Congress.
However, when the no-confidence motion issue became public, many of those who had changed parties contacted people who are familiar with the GHMC Act and asked how the no-confidence motion process would be carried out.
