Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan Sparks Controversy – Actor Issues Public Apology

Mohanlal’s much-awaited sequel, L2: Empuraan, released on March 27, soon after the monstrous success of Lucifer. The movie, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, had an opening to good reviews and expectations. Soon, though, the film landed in the middle of a storm.

A few scenes in L2: Empuraan, which are said to be connected with the Gujarat riots, prompted outrage among some sections of the audience. The film came under fire on all social media platforms, and #BoycottL2 was trending as netizens raised their voices against it. When the controversy intensified, the central government stepped in, and the censor board recommended 17 changes to the film.

In response to the furore, Mohanlal went on social media to make a sincere apology. He apologized for the unintended hurt caused by the socio-political storyline of the film and accepted the duty of artists to produce content that does not provoke division or controversy. On behalf of the team of Empuraan, he made a sincere apology to those who were offended by the content of the film.

The actor also confirmed that the team as a whole has unanimously decided to eliminate the objectionable sequences from the film. He assured the fans that his 40-year long career in cinema has been based on their love and faith, reiterating that their blind faith remains his greatest strength.

Mohanlal’s remark has since become viral, giving rise to massive discussions in the industry and among movie buffs.
