Hyderabad: Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, during the promotions of L2: Empuraan, clarified that the film cannot serve as the foundation for a sequel to Godfather, the Telugu remake of his blockbuster Lucifer.
Addressing the differences between the original and its Telugu adaptation, Mohanlal stated, “Many Malayalam films I have acted in have been remade in other languages. I watched Godfather, the Telugu remake of Lucifer. The makers made several changes to the original story, and some key characters from the first part were omitted. Due to these alterations, L2 cannot be used to develop Godfather 2.”
Directed by Mohan Raja and starring Chiranjeevi, Godfather was released in 2022. The Telugu version notably omitted the character played by Tovino Thomas in Lucifer. However, the L2 trailer confirms that Tovino Thomas plays a pivotal role in the sequel, reinforcing Mohanlal’s assertion that L2 and a potential Godfather 2 would not align.
Following the massive success of Lucifer, its sequel, L2: Empuraan, is set to release on March 27.
