Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has been selected for the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema. Announcing the award on Saturday, the central government recognized his work as an actor, director, and producer.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Mohanlal said he was initially in disbelief upon receiving the call from the Prime Minister’s Office. “I thought I was dreaming and asked them to repeat it. This award belongs to Malayalam cinema and to all my fans. I have no big dreams beyond cinema,” he added.
Reflecting on his 48-year career, he said, “I focus on stories and combinations rather than individual roles. Working with legends like Prem Nazir, Amitabh Bachchan, and Sivaji Ganesan has been a wonderful experience. Some colleagues are no longer with me, but the memories remain.” He also confirmed that shooting for Drishyam 3 will begin on Monday. Mohanlal will receive the award at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony in Delhi on August 23.
Leading personalities have congratulated the actor. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu called it a fitting honour, while Tollywood stars Chiranjeevi and NTR praised him as a legendary figure in Indian cinema.
