Modi’s `Double-Engine’ Government Turns `Double- Game’ In AP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet slogan everywhere is appealing people to vote of `double-engine’ government, means BJP and its allies both at the center and also in the state. At Chilakaluripet election rally also sharing dais with TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, after a gap of over ten years, given a call for `double engine’ government.

Though Modi seems to be asking people to vote for BJP and it’s allies both in the Lok Sabha elections and also in the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, he hardly mentioned TDP. Not a single word uttered by him seeking return of the TDP-led government in the state.

Even the BJP cadre seems to be disappointed with PM Modi’s `soft’ speech.  It sounded as if it was more of a matter of fact speech targeted at the Congress party, not the ruling YSRCP in the state.  Modi knew very well that the BJP has no vote base in AP. This being the situation why is that he failed to enthuse rank and file with his inimitable kind of barbs against the ruling party.

There is a strong feeling among the voters that BJP has been soft towards the YSRCP in last five years. Moreover, chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is considered by modi as `adopted son’, as was revealed by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, some time again.

It is also a naked fack that with the all-out support of Modi’s administration only Jagan is able to avoid beginning a trial in all corruption cases, against him for the last more than ten years. However, as Jagan’s vote base traditionally opposed BJP, any alliance with BJP cost him heavily politically.

That’s why Jagan is unable to have a direct poll alliance with BJP and BJP is in a desperate mood in increasing its seats in the south. So, in a politically compulsive scenario it brought pressure on TDP for a poll alliance, but it is not in a mood to cooperate with TDP to return back to the state. Political observers are of the view that BJP with `double-engine’ government slogan, is in fact playing `double-game’ in Andhra Pradesh.

Even BJP cadre in the state are now worried that this message would cost them politically and hardly TDP and Jana Sena cadre work for them in the alliance, as they were branded as `Jagan’s coverts’. They are recalling that it was the Congress campaign that BJP and BRS are the same, that cost the party significantly in Telangana assembly polls.
