The death toll in the Mir Chowk fire accident near Charminar has risen to 17. A massive fire broke out in Gulzar House in Mir Chowk in the early hours of Sunday. 17 people died when the fire broke out on the first floor of the building. Many were seriously injured. While three died on the spot, 14 others died while undergoing treatment in the hospital. The dead include four children and four women.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief ministers of two Telugu states and other prominent leaders have expressed shock over this fire accident. Prime Minister Modi expressed deep shock over the massive fire. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each was announced for the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 each for the injured. He tweeted to this effect.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep shock over the Old Town fire. He issued orders to the authorities to intensify relief efforts. He suggested that the injured be provided with proper medical services. AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep shock over the Gulzar House fire and expressed his deep condolences to the families of the deceased. He said that he is praying for the speedy recovery of the injured.
AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan said that the Gulzar House fire has caused a stir. He appealed to the Telangana government to support the affected families. He asked for better medical care for the injured. BRS chief and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed deep shock over the horrific fire accident that took place in Gulzar House. He expressed deep condolences over the deaths.
KCR asked the state government to ensure that those injured in the accident get better treatment. He advised the government to announce adequate financial assistance to the families of the deceased and stand by them. He said that such accidents should not be repeated in the future and that appropriate precautionary measures should be taken.
Meanwhile, the fire department officials initially estimated that the incident occurred due to the explosion of an air conditioner compressor in a shop on the ground floor. Due to this, toxic gases, thick smoke and fire spread suddenly. They came to the conclusion that the severity of the accident increased due to the lack of a fire exit in the building. Moreover, there is only one exit in such a big house. The door outside is very wide but the inside is very narrow, and the stairs are not even right, officials said.
