Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy Hints at Ration Card Flexibility for Dual-State Holders

Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that there could be an option provided for individuals holding ration cards in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This was discussed during a cabinet sub-committee meeting on the distribution of white ration cards, attended by Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Damodar Rajanarasimha, and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.

During the meeting, the sub-committee proposed that households in rural areas with an annual income of up to Rs 1 lakh, owning 3.50 acres of Magani or less than 7.5 acres, should be eligible for white ration cards. For urban areas, the proposal suggests that those with a maximum annual income of Rs 2 lakh would qualify for the ration cards.

The sub-committee also emphasized the importance of gathering input from all political parties and public representatives. Letters will be sent to MPs and MLAs seeking their suggestions on the matter. Uttam Kumar Reddy confirmed that the recommendations of the Saxena Committee would also be considered in the ration card distribution process. Currently, Telangana has over 89 lakh ration cards, with an additional 10 lakh applications pending approval.
