Medical and Health Minister Y. Satyakumar Yadav said that the main goal of the government is to make Andhra Pradesh cancer-free. As part of that, he said that funds are being allocated for the purchase of equipment in KGH and several hospitals in the state, and doctors and staff are being appointed.
He formally inaugurated the linear accelerator (Rs. 25 crores), city simulator (Rs. 9.5 crores), and brachytherapy (Rs. 7.5 crores) equipment installed at KGH at a cost of about Rs. 42 crores to provide treatment to cancer patients on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Satyakumar said that these equipment have been provided to provide modern cancer medical services to the people of North Andhra. Till now, due to the lack of proper facilities here, patients had to go to other states, but now modern treatments will be available at KGH itself.
He said that a special survey will be conducted soon to identify those with cancer symptoms. He said that funds have been allocated in the past to set up a comprehensive cancer treatment center in Kurnool, and comprehensive cancer centers have been set up in two other places along with KGH.
Meanwhile, the year 2024-25 can be called a festival of promotions in the health department. Almost 600 doctors and more than a hundred other officers were promoted in this panel year, which is unprecedented in the history of the health department.
Doctors and staff were promoted in every department like Director of Medical Education (DME), Director of Secondary Health (DSH), Director of Health (DH), AYUSH Department, Drug Control Administration.
Finally, after 20 years of promotions, Group-1 officers were also promoted from Deputy Director to Joint Director. In the drugs department, two deputy directors have also been promoted to joint directors. In the history of DME, 13 senior professors have been promoted to additional directors (ADs).
Along with them, 217 doctors have been promoted in DME this year. 96 associate professors have been promoted to professors and 108 assistant professors to associate professors. The coalition government also has the credit of providing the opportunity to an associate with teaching experience as professors for the first time. Thus, more than 150 doctors have benefited.
