Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Dr. Ponguru Narayana has alleged that the previous YSRCP government had completely destroyed the municipal system in the state and the present government is correcting the irregularities and putting the governance in order. He visited Done in Nandyal district and inspected the legacy waste management plant works at the dumping yard.
The minister was warmly welcomed by local MLA Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy, TDP and BJP leaders. He directed to further speed up the garbage removal process. Later, he said that the previous government, which oppressed the people in the name of garbage tax, left behind 85 lakh tons of garbage.
He said that all the irregularities of the YSRCP are being revealed as they dig and they are systematically removing the garbage they left behind and that CM Chandrababu has instructed them to completely remove all this garbage by October 2, Gandhi Jayanti. He said that recycling work is progressing rapidly in the state.
He explained that 79 lakh tons of garbage have already been removed and that there are still six lakh tons of garbage left. He said that 100 percent will be cleared by October 2. He said that the garbage below the ground level will also be removed in two months. He said that 36,000 tons out of 50,000 tons of garbage have been removed in a single day.
The Minister announced that waste-to-energy plants are going to be set up in the future without the problem of garbage. He recalled that all developed countries like America, China, Russia, Japan and Singapore are implementing this policy.
He said that in 2014 alone, his government sanctioned 10 plants, and those plants in Visakhapatnam and Guntur have been completed. But, he deplored the previous government stopped the remaining 8 plants after coming to power.
Dr Narayana said that after the coalition came to power again, it sanctioned six more plants and work on four of them has started. He explained that it was CM Chandrababu Naidu’s idea to do without dumping yards in the state. He said that AP will be kept as a role model as a garbage-free state.
He said that while paying off a debt of tens of lakhs of crores on the one hand, we are moving forward with two eyes on development and welfare on the other. He said that the previous YSRCP government had also dismantled the TIDCO houses that were started with high intentions, and that the issue of TIDCO houses will also be resolved by next March.
