Municipal and Urban Development Minister Dr. Ponguru Narayana said that he would like to express his gratitude to everyone who stood by the flood victims in Vijayawada. He directed the authorities on the precautions to be taken during floods, development of the city and other matters.
He has warned in his own style that especially when the work should be finished if it is pending, he will not sit still. In this order, several petitions were submitted to the minister. The officials were instructed on the spot to examine them thoroughly and do justice to the victims.
Minister Narayana told the media that around 7 lakh people suffered various conditions for 11 days when Budameru was cut off. He said that 29 divisions have been cleared out of 33 divisions in 11 days. Also, it took 19 days to clear four more divisions. For those 11 days, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu himself was in the Collectorate.
He recalled that MPs, Ministers, MLAs, senior IAS officers and all the officers were sent to the field and took action on war-foot. The minister said that today the state has received more than Rs 450 donations from the public towards flood relief, as everyone saw that situation with their own eyes, so they have come forward.
The Chief Minister, MPs, MLAs, Ministers and officers also went to their homes. In the same way, vegetables, blankets and funds have stood by in many forms for the flood victims from Nellore. He said that from his Narayana Educational Institutions Rs. 2.5 crores has been given by its students.
Meanwhile, the minister said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed to implement `Operation Budameru’ i in all districts. He said that a review was conducted in Nellore with Revenue, Irrigation and Municipal officials and the relevant authorities have been instructed to study the actual situation within 10 days. He said that the winding works of the canals will start after 10 days. He assured that they will show an alternative to the poor and repair the canals.
