State Chief Election Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena flyed the SPs of three districts as to why they neglected law and order while the election code was in force. He asked for an explanation on the developments leading up to the simultaneous murders.
As per his orders to personally appear before him regarding the recent incidents of political violence in Nandyala, Prakasam and Palnadu districts, SPs Raghuveera Reddy, Parameshwara Reddy and Ravi Shankar Reddy came to Amaravati secretariat at 4 pm on Thursday.
Explanations and reports were given together with the CEO. Along with them, Additional DG Sankabratha Bagchi met the CEO. Meena called the three SPs separately and talked to them. The meetings lasted for about 75 minutes.
It is reported that the CEO questioned the Palanadu SP as to why he was unable to control law and order when Macherla was in trouble for a long time. The explanation of the SPs was taken on the deterioration of the situation to the extent of murders in Nandyala and Prakasam districts.
He cautioned them that since the code is in force, the Central Election Commission has been directly monitoring the matter of law and order. He said that the explanations of the SPs will be sent to the EC.
Later speaking to the media, Meena said that a preliminary report has been received that the murder was politically motivated in Giddalur of Prakasam district. It was explained that the SP said that they have identified an accused in the car burning case in Macherla of Palnadu district and will arrest him on Thursday night.
‘We have taken the explanation of the SPs on the incidents that took place in three districts. We are sending these to the Central Election Commission today. The EC expressed its anger over the political violence after the election code’, he added.
“We have clearly told the SPs that there should be no incidents of violence. He said that we should talk to the leaders of all parties to prevent political violence”, he said.
