In a major setback to Tollywood, the team behind the highly anticipated pan-India film Kannappa is reeling from a serious blow just weeks before its scheduled release on June 27. A hard disk containing vital visual effects (VFX) footage has reportedly gone missing, triggering panic among the makers and raising concerns about the film’s post-production timeline.
According to sources, the hard disk was dispatched by a reputed VFX company based in Mumbai to the office of actor and producer Manchu Vishnu. Shockingly, the disk was allegedly picked up by an employee identified as Charitha, bypassing standard protocols. The device has since vanished, and despite ongoing efforts, it remains untraceable. A formal police complaint has been lodged at Film Nagar Police Station, reportedly outlining the quantity of data lost and the length of the critical footage.
The timing of this incident couldn’t be worse. With less than a month left before Kannappa hits theatres, the disappearance of the VFX footage has left the Manchu family deeply concerned. As a big-budget film with an investment exceeding ₹100 crores, Kannappa is one of the most ambitious projects in recent Tollywood history.
The film boasts a stellar cast, including Prabhas, Mohanlal, Mohan Babu, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal, drawing nationwide attention. Promotional activities are already in full swing, and dubbing sessions were about to begin. A lavish pre-release event is also in the works.
But this sudden setback now looms large over the release date of the movie. The lost hard disk not only runs the risk of possible data breaches but also jeopardizes the delaying of pivotal post-production if the lost footage is not recovered in time.
