Manchu Vishnu’s much-awaited passion film, ‘Kannappa,’ is now set to finally arrive on the big screen after a string of delays. The movie initially had an April release date but subsequently missed it and is now set to release in cinemas on June 27. With weeks to go for the big day, Vishnu has kicked promotional activities into high gear in order to get people hyped and excited all over the country.
In a recent open interview, Manchu Vishnu spoke about why the repeated delays happened. He reiterated that upholding the best quality, especially with VFX and CGI, was not something the team would compromise on. The visual effects took longer than expected, as Vishnu wanted to provide a visually high-quality experience without compromising on anything. He was also committed to bringing new talent to the VFX division so that new entrants could find a platform to present themselves.
But this choice carried unforeseen challenges. Having key VFX work done by comparatively inexperienced artists resulted in significant delays and wastage of time and resources. Vishnu conceded this was a learning process and a hard lesson for the film. In spite of the setbacks, he assured fans that the content and visual splendor of the film are unaffected, pointing out that several costly sequences were shot outside the country, assisted by top-class graphics.
Having spent more than two years on ‘Kannappa’, there’s no doubt Vishnu has devoted his heart and soul. The film underwent some changes en route, such as a change in directors and others, but interest in the movie is growing by the day. Contributing to the excitement is the fact that superstar Prabhas has been roped in for a key guest role, which, says Vishnu, is more than a plain cameo, with more footage than anticipated.
‘Kannappa’ boasts a star-studded lineup with industry veterans Mohanlal, Sarath Kumar, Mohan Babu, and Kajal Aggarwal as part of its stellar cast, making it amongst the most widely looked-forward-to pan-India releases of 2025. In anticipation of the June 27 release date, fans are keen to experience this visual extravaganza on the big screen.
