Hyderabad: Actor-producer Manchu Vishnu, who is gearing up for the release of his dream project Kannappa on June 27, shared key behind-the-scenes revelations during a promotional interview. Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, the film is based on the life of the Shaivite devotee Kannappa and features an ensemble cast. Vishnu disclosed that a character was initially planned alongside his father Mohan Babu’s role, for which superstar Rajinikanth was considered. However, the writers felt that the track might overshadow the core narrative, leading to its removal.
Vishnu also addressed the inclusion of actor Prabhas in the film, noting that two roles were offered to him, and the star opted for the character of Rudra. He clarified that Prabhas was not specifically cast as Lord Shiva. Recalling an incident with the Censor Board, Vishnu said, “Before releasing a lyrical video, we submitted it to the Censor Board. They questioned the existence of a love story in Kannappa’s life. I replied that Kannappa had a wife named Neela.” The film features several high-profile actors, including Mohan Babu, Prabhas, Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal in pivotal roles.
