Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for interlinking characters across films to create unique cinematic experiences, is currently busy promoting his upcoming film Coolie, starring Rajinikanth and set to release on August 14. During a recent interview, Lokesh addressed speculation about his next project with Aamir Khan.
When asked about Irumbu Kai Maayavi being made with Aamir, Lokesh clarified, “I wrote that script nearly ten years ago. Some scenes were too similar to those in a recently released mythological film, so I decided to rework the entire script. Aamir sir is interested in doing an action film with me. Whether it will be a superhero film or a fantasy film is still undecided.”
There were earlier reports that Irumbu Kai Maayavi might be made with actor Suriya, but no confirmation has followed.
Speaking about Coolie, Lokesh said, “Before starting the shoot, I narrated the story to director Nelson, who shared his idea for Jailer 2 with me. As friends, it’s exciting for both of us to work with Rajinikanth sir on separate films. Some fans assumed Coolie was a time-travel movie because of the emphasis on a watch in the promo. But the story includes episodes related to a watch factory, and the action sequences are key elements.” He also confirmed that Coolie is not part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). The film features Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir in significant roles.
Lokesh also revealed that he is preparing for his acting debut in a film directed by Arun Matheswaran. “Arun asked me not to cut or shave my hair for three months for a specific look. The look test isn’t complete yet, but with his permission, I trimmed slightly to attend Coolie promotions,” he said with a smile.
