A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned for Tamil Nadu BJP chief and former IPS officer Annamalai, who is contesting from Coimbatore in Lok Sabha elections, TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh is taking part in BJP’s campaign.
On the request of the BJP, TDP young leader Lokesh is taking part in the campaign for two days, on Thursday and Friday. Annamalai, who has rose to political prominence in the state by his relentless fight against mis-governance of the DMK regime in the state, is striving hard to show public support to him in the polls.
Prime Minister Modi also took it as a prestigious seat and only on Wednesday appealed to people to elect Annamalai, so as to teach a lesson to DMK rulers. It may be recalled that Coimbatore is known for the presence of a large number of people with Telugu as their mother tongue, who were settled there some generations ago.
Lokesh will participate in the election campaign meeting to be organized by the BJP in Peelamedu, Tamil Nadu on Thursday. After participating in a road show and door-to-door campaign from morning to evening, he will address the public meeting.
The influence of Telugu voters is high in this constituency. Lokesh will visit Tamil Nadu as part of a strategy to campaign with leaders from Telugu regions in areas where people from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are settled.
There have been instances in the past where Telugu Desam Party leaders have campaigned in Tamil Nadu region. NDA is trying to achieve a double digit vote percentage in Tamil Nadu so as to prove its South reach in a big way.
Lokesh will hold a meeting with Telugu industrialists at Indira Gardens in Singanallur on Friday. He will ask industrialists to contribute to the success of Annamalai. Election polling will be held in 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu in the first phase on 19th of this month. The election campaign will end on the 17th.
