Lok Sabha Adjourned Till Monday Amid Uproar Over NEET Paper Leak Row

Tensions escalated in Parliament on Friday as the Congress-led INDIA bloc and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance clashed over the demand for a debate on the contentious NEET row, resulting in a heated confrontation and the suspension of legislative proceedings.

Amid uproar from the Opposition demanding a discussion on NEET issues, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House until Monday. Congress MP Deepender Hooda alleged that the chaos in the chamber ensued after officials turned off the microphone of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, adding to the ruckus.

The Congress party moved adjournment motions in both Houses, urging the suspension of regular business to address the NEET concerns promptly. However, Speaker Om Birla declined the request, citing the scheduled discussion on the Motion of Thanks regarding President Draupadi Murmu’s address to Parliament, leading to further uproar among members.

Speaker Om Birla emphasized that he had received 22 notices on the NEET paper leak case and highlighted the President’s commitment to a fair investigation into the irregularities in NEET. Despite his reassurances, the Opposition remained steadfast in their demand for a dedicated discussion on the NEET issue.

After the adjournment, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the Congress for disrupting the House proceedings and stated that the government was prepared to provide detailed information on any issue raised. He condemned the Congress party’s approach of obstructing the House’s functioning and urged cooperation for constructive debates in the future.

The clash between the Congress and BJP in Parliament underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding the NEET row and the challenges in conducting legislative business amidst differing priorities and demands. Stay tuned for further developments on this contentious issue and its impact on parliamentary proceedings.
