Veteran producer Nagavamsi has weighed in on the cross-cultural challenges of filmmaking, suggesting that Malayalam hit Lok – Chapter 1 would not have resonated with Telugu audiences. He explained that Telugu viewers pay closer attention to story logic, making it difficult for films that thrive in other regional markets to succeed.
Speaking at a promotional event for his upcoming film Mass Jathra, starring Ravi Teja and releasing on October 31 under Sitara Entertainments, Nagavamsi elaborated, “Malayalam audiences easily connect with the emotions in a story. But Telugu audiences often ask, ‘Where is the logic in this film?’ A cross-cultural release would face intense criticism, and even minor issues would be highlighted.”
Nagavamsi also reflected on his banner’s previous release, War 2, admitting it underperformed. “We trusted Aditya Chopra, but the film turned out to be a misfire. The trolling on social media certainly caught our attention,” he said candidly.
His comments on regional audience preferences and the perils of adapting content across languages have sparked lively discussion among film enthusiasts, highlighting the nuanced tastes of Telugu versus Malayalam viewers.
