Actress Laya is set to make her comeback to Telugu cinema with the upcoming film Thammudu, starring Nithiin in the lead role. The film, directed by Sriram Venu, is scheduled for release on July 4 and is centered around the emotional bond between a brother and sister. In a recent interview, Laya shared insights into her journey, recalling how she was once approached by director V.V. Vinayak for a sister’s role in Balakrishna’s Chennakesava Reddy. Responding to reports that she became emotional during that time, Laya said she doesn’t clearly remember the incident but clarified that she did not cry. She noted that audience perspectives have evolved over time, and heroines today are accepted in a variety of roles.
Laya also reminisced about her early career days, recalling the advice given by director K. Raghavendra Rao after she emerged as the runner-up in the Star 2000 talent show. He had advised her to avoid sister roles and wait a little longer before stepping into lead roles. Although she missed the chance to work with Balakrishna in Chennakesava Reddy, she later shared screen space with him in Vijayendra Varma. After her marriage, Laya took a break from acting, with her last appearance being a guest role in the 2018 film Amar Akbar Anthony. With Thammudu, she now returns in a significant role, marking a new phase in her acting journey.
