Hyderabad: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has directed Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to efficiently utilize the available water in the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs. During a meeting held at Jalasaudha in Hyderabad, the board, chaired by Atul Jain, emphasized prioritizing drinking water needs while ensuring adequate supply for irrigation in both states.
Telangana Irrigation Department Principal Secretary Rahul Bojja, Engineer-in-Chief (ENC) Anil Kumar, Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Special Chief Secretary Saiprasad, ENC Venkateswara Rao, and other senior officials attended the meeting. Discussions centered on water allocation and management strategies for the two states.
Telangana has requested 63 TMC of water, while Andhra Pradesh has sought 55 TMC to meet requirements until the end of May. Currently, over 60 TMC of water is available above the usable level in both reservoirs. The board advised cautious utilization of the available resources and decided to review the situation every 15 days.
