Kollywood Actor Sriram Arrested in Drug Case

Popular Kollywood actor Sriram, who also enjoys a considerable fan base among Telugu audiences, has been arrested by the Chennai police in connection with a drug trafficking case. The arrest has triggered widespread concern and discussions within the Tamil film fraternity.

According to official sources, the Narcotics Intelligence Unit of the Chennai Police apprehended Sriram following allegations that he had purchased drugs from former AIADMK functionary Prasad. The arrest is reportedly based on information obtained during the interrogation of Prasad and two other individuals who were earlier taken into custody.

Post-arrest, Sriram was taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where medical tests, including blood sample collection, were conducted. He was subsequently shifted to the Nungambakkam Police Station, where he was interrogated for nearly two hours.

Sriram, originally named Srikanth and hailing from Tirupati, began his career in Chennai at a young age, adopting the stage name ‘Sriram.’ He made his debut as a lead actor in both Telugu and Tamil through the film Roja Poolu and gained wider recognition with Okariki Okaru. Over the years, he appeared in several Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada films. More recently, he featured in the web series Harikatha and played a significant role in director Shankar’s Nanban, alongside Jiiva and Vijay.

The actor’s arrest has become a major talking point in the Chennai film industry. Authorities have indicated that more details could emerge as the investigation continues.
