As crucial elections are in progress, key leaders are leaving the ruling YSRCP with discontent over the leadership. Some leaders waited till the completion of nominations period expecting the leadership to rethink and accommodate them. After making sure that their candidature is not under consideration of the leadership, they started to quit the party.
Key leader from Guntur district, YCP Guntur Parliament President and former minister Dokka Manikya Vara Prasad resigned from the party on Thursday. During the Congress regime he was elected to the assembly twice from Tadikonda and after the formation of TDP government he joined the ruling party.
TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu makes him MLC and also whip in the legislative council. But after YS Jaganmohan Reddy became chief minister he resigned from TDP and also as MLC and joined YCP. In YCP also he became MLC.
He expected to contest in the assembly poll either from his earlier Tadikonda constituency or from Pattipadu constituency. But YCP leadership did not consider his candidature. He tried till the last minute. He was also present in Jaganmohan Reddy’s Bus Yatra, expecting that the party may consider his candidature even at the last minute.
He is unhappy as the party has been ignoring him since some time. He was also unhappy as he was not renominated as MLC. Realising that he may not have a political future in YCP, he has resigned from the party. He has close association with Krishna Madiga and is likely to join TDP again.
