Veteran actor Mohanlal was felicitated by the Kerala government in a grand ceremony held at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, following his recent recognition with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, several ministers, and senior officials attended the event to honour the acclaimed actor for his remarkable contributions to Indian cinema.
Expressing his gratitude, Mohanlal said the award evoked memories of the legends who had received it before him, as well as the pioneering work of Dadasaheb Phalke. “This award has given me a truly special feeling. I grew up here in Thiruvananthapuram, and having this ceremony take place here is deeply emotional. It is a meaningful recognition for the people of Kerala, especially Malayalees. Governments elected by the people have always supported me throughout my career,” he said.
Reflecting on his cinematic journey, the actor recalled his humble beginnings. “Forty-eight years ago, I knew nothing about cinema. A few friends and I went to Madras to make a small film. Without my knowledge, my photographs reached director Fazil, and that led to my debut in Manjil Virinja Pookkal. From there to now, as I work on Drishyam 3, it has been a long journey. Behind me have always been the guiding hands of talented directors, writers, cinematographers, makeup artists, and many others. Whenever I doubt myself, they call me ‘Laletta,’ and just like that, I get back on track,” he added.
