Kavitha Resigns From BRS And MLC Post

In a huge development in Telangana politics, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has submitted her resignation from both the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and as an MLC.

Kavitha resigned mere hours after being suspended from the party.  Kavitha submitted her resignation in the proper Speaker’s format which suggests she is insistent on her position.

On Wednesday, Kavitha met the media at the Telangana Jagruthi office located on Banjara Hill. In an emotional 40-minute speech, she spoke about her political journey, the personal sacrifices she made in the struggle for statehood, and the inner upheaval related to the party.

Kavitha made clear that she never got into politics with a desire for power or seats. She remembered quitting a job overseas for her father at the time of the agitation for Telangana and underlined that she and her brother, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), never campaigned for seats.

Justifying her move, she stated: “When I choose to walk away from the party, it is only right that I give up the MLC post that came through it.”

Not only has her move sent waves in the BRS but has also provoked rumor about where she will go next and what it will mean for Telangana politics.
