K. Kavitha has called for a three-day hunger strike in Hyderabad on August 4 to 6 calling for decisive measures and legal certainty from the Congress-ruled Telangana government on the pending Backward Class (BC) reservations issue.
The declaration comes at the heels of the Congress party’s planned demonstrations in Delhi from August 5 to 7 seeking to bring attention to the very same concern. Kavitha’s action is interpreted as a preemptive measure to escalate public and political pressure on the state government.
Kavitha had previously scheduled a “Rail Roko” protest but deferred it after the Telangana government threatened to bring an ordinance. With no tangible progress till now, she has chosen to go ahead with a hunger strike, charging the government with a lack of urgency and seriousness.
She strongly urged the state to approach the Supreme Court, citing Tamil Nadu’s successful legal battle when its Governor delayed key bills. Kavitha questioned why the Revanth Reddy-led government hasn’t explored similar legal options regarding bills and issues still pending with the Governor and President.
