Legendary actor Kamal Haasan, known for delivering numerous cult classics in his illustrious six-decade film career, and one of them is the psychological romantic movie “Guna.” Directed by Santhana Bharati, the film was initially released on November 5, 1991. After 35 years of its theatrical release, the film is once again set to hit theaters with a grand re-release.
This cinematic gem was earlier scheduled for a re-release on June 21, but it got delayed due to legal complications. With the issues resolved in September, the film is now set to grace the big screen once again on November 29, 2024. This re-release is exclusive to Tamil Nadu, with no updates on a Telugu version so far.
Starring Kamal Haasan in the role of a mentally ill person, the movie features Rohini as the female lead, alongside Rekha, SP Balasubrahmanyam, Janagaraj, Ajay Ratnam, Girish Karnad, Sharat Saxena, and others in significant roles. Produced by Swathi Chithra International, it boasts a memorable score by musical maestro Ilayaraja as the music composer. The iconic song ‘Kammani nee prema lekha’ became an evergreen hit song and remained as the timeless classic. Fans are eagerly anticipating its release.
The film gained renewed attention following the release of the Malayalam movie ‘Manjummel Boys,’ which was filmed at the same location as the iconic film Guna. The caves, which are located in Kodaikanal, were originally known as Devil’s Kitchen and became famously referred to as Guna Caves after the Tamil movie Guna was shot there.
