Kalki 2898AD has been creating a havoc at the worldwide box office ever since its release last Thursday. The Prabhas starrer has packed a solid punch in the first weekend despite releasing during a rainy and non-holiday season. After taking a dream start with the third highest opening of 191 Crores gross worldwide on June 27th, the Nag Ashwin directional has showed no signs of slowing down towards the weekend and shattered numerous existing records in several territories.
After four days, Kalki 2898AD punched out 555 Crores gross and set sights on entering the prestigious 1000 Crore club in its full run. Not just in domestic market, the film is a rage at the overseas box office as well. While the Hindi version grossed close to 132 crore after a spectacular Sunday, the Telugu states contributed around 150 Crores. In overseas, Kalki 2898AD emerged as an epic blockbuster with 150 Crores gross.
In North America, Kalki notched up $11.22 million and set a new all time record surpassing the previous best set by Baahubali 2. The film is now on track to overtake the lifetime collections of RRR, Pathaan, Jawan etc. In other overseas territories like UK, Canada, Australia and Singapore, the dystopian science fiction thriller is pulling in phenomenal numbers.
In neighbouring states like Kerala, Kalki turned out to be a blockbuster with 12 crores gross in four days. In Tamil Nadu, the film amassed 23 Crores and the Karnataka gross added up to 37 Crores by the end of the first weekend.
Overall, the film had a fantastic first weekend run and recouped around 70 percent of its investment. The Monday bookings are very solid and trade circles are expecting another massive day at the box office.
The commendable performance by the stellar cast and the stupendous visuals in Hollywood range helped the film garner unanimous talk on the opening day. The presence of notable actors like Amithabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan added to the hype on the film.
