Kaleshwaram Commission Given Additional Two Months to Complete Investigation

The Telangana government is still grappling with the next steps regarding the ongoing Kaleshwaram controversy. Earlier, it was widely believed that the Justice P.C. Ghosh Commission would soon wrap up its investigation by focusing on officials and evidence, without involving political leaders. Several media reports had suggested this approach. But recent updates reveal that the commission’s tenure has now been extended by an additional two months, pushing the deadline further.

Well back in the elections, the Congress leaders had emphasized strongly that they would expose large-scale corruption in the Kaleshwaram project when they came into power. Keeping this promise, the Congress government set up the Justice P.C. Ghosh Commission to make an exhaustive inquiry. Till now, the commission has examined the principal officials and scrutinized important documents, with hopes that an interim report was about to be ready.

Speculation existed that major political leaders, such as the Former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), Harish Rao, and Etela Rajender, could be called for questioning. In order to keep the inquiry politically unbiased and controversy-free, the commission initially did not call political leaders directly. It tried to point any wrongdoing relating to them through other means of evidence.

But with the extension of the term of the commission, the call to summon political leaders has again gained momentum. This would possibly reawaken political tensions as the investigation continues to unfold.
