Actress Jyothika has voiced concerns over gender bias in the South Indian film industry, stating that many directors write scripts primarily for male leads. She pointed out that while aging heroes continue to be accepted in lead roles, actresses face limitations as they grow older.
Speaking in an interview during promotions for her latest web series Dabba Cartel, which premiered on Netflix yesterday, Jyothika reflected on her own career. She mentioned becoming a mother at 28 and subsequently taking on diverse roles, but noted that she has not worked with star heroes in recent years. She specifically highlighted the Tamil film industry, stating that age remains a significant barrier for female actors. Given these challenges, she stressed the importance of working with new filmmakers to build sustainable careers.
