In a tragic twist, Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath died of complications due to a severe heart attack. The senior leader was under treatment at AIG Hospital after three days of being admitted when the cardiac arrest occurred.
There were initial speculations regarding his death soon after his hospitalization, but doctors still proceeded with intensive care and put him on ventilator support. After CPR, there was a transient return of his heartbeat, providing a spark of hope to his relatives and supporters. Sadly, though medical personnel worked day and night, his condition did not improve. On Sunday morning, doctors officially confirmed his death.
Maganti Gopinath was a well-known figure in Telangana politics, famous for his ground-level connect and public service spanning several decades. He was chosen three times as MLA from Jubilee Hills—initially on a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) ticket and subsequently twice as a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) member.
Entering the legislature in 2014 was a milestone in his political life. With the changing political scenario, he jumped ship to BRS and remained true to his constituency with dedication and honesty.
Gopinath’s untimely demise has created a huge void in the BRS party as well as among Jubilee Hills people. His demise is the second significant loss of the BRS within a year—the unfortunate death of the Cantonment MLA in a road accident. Now, the party and its cadre are bereaved of yet another main leader.
