In a big jolt to his professional career, choreographer Jani Master, who has been facing rape charges under POSCO act for allegedly abusing a junior female dancer, will now not receive the prestigious National Award which was conferred for his impressive dance moves in Megham Karukatha song in Thiruchitrumbalam for the year 2022.
As per reports, the awards committee has revoked Jani Master’s candidature based on the fact that he was arrested over charges of sexual assault. Though the case is just in the trail stage, the decision appears to have been made based on the remand report and Jani Master’s confession during the interrogation.
Jani Master was supposed to take the award on the 8th of this month in New Delhi during a ceremony. He also secured an interim bail for five days to attend this event. As per the court’s decision, Jani is permitted to come out on bail from October 6th to 10th. With the national award getting cancelled, there are chances that the bail petition might be revoked with immediate effect.
The decision to grant interim bail to choreographer has sparked a lot of public anger and raised demands for the cancellation of his National Award.
Additionally, the invitation extended to Jani Master to attend the 70th National Awards ceremony at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi has also been withdrawn. Since Jani Master and Sathish Krishnan jointly received the National Award, the latter is still expected to attend the ceremony.
