Jana Sena party chief Pawan Kalyan has finalized the name of Konidela Nagababu as the MLC candidate for the party. The party president and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan has issued a statement saying that Nagababu has been finalized as the Jana Sena candidate for the MLC elections to be held under the MLA quota as part of the alliance.
Nagababu was expected to contest in the last year’s Lok Sabha elections from Anakapalle on behalf of Jana Sena. However, as part of the alliance, that seat was given to the BJP. He sacrificed the seat for the alliance. After that, there was a campaign that he would get a Rajya Sabha seat.
Since there were fewer seats in it, CM Chandrababu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan decided to give him a chance as an MLC. During Rajya Sabha by-elections, even Chandrababu Naidu announced that Nagababu would be inducted in his cabinet. In this context, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan recently met CM Chandrababu. This meeting lasted for about an hour.
It seems that there was a discussion on the selection of Nagababu as the MLC candidate. After noticing the negative comments on social media on the move to induct Nagababu into the state cabinet, Jana Sena wanted to send him to the Rajya Sabha in the vacancy caused by the resignation of Vijayasai Reddy.
However, as BJP is insisting for that seat as Vijayasai Reddy resigned on their advice, there was left no option for Jana Sena except to nominate Nagababu in the MLC elections. In the wake of these developments, Pawan Kalyan after talking to CM Chandrababu this morning seems to have selected Nagababu as the MLC candidate.
Meanwhile, though BJP is also insisting one seat among five MLC seats for which elections are not holding, it is learnt that Chandrababu had made it clear in advance that there was no possibility of giving it to BJP as one seat had already been given to Nagababu. Now, TDP has to finalize names of party candidates for the remaining four MLC seats.
