Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has approached the state High Court for the second time after losing the recent assembly elections. While the previous instance was to secure the leader of Opposition in the state legislative assembly, the present case is relating to his personal security. The case relating to Opposition status is yet to come for hearing.
As per reliable reports, Jagan filed a petition in the High Court to direct the state government to provide him the same security that was in force on June 3rd when he was the Chief Minister of the state. He alleged that the present government has cut down security personnel from 139 to 59 immediately after coming to power, without taking into consideration the threat to his life.
In his petition, Jagan sought the intervention of the court to restore the former security and also alleged that the bullet proof vehicle provided by the government is not in a good condition. He further stated that his security was revised all of a sudden without any review and prior information. This case is likely to be heard by the High Court in a couple of days.
The controversy over Jagan’s security kicked off when the new government alleged that as many as 986 personnel from various police wings were deployed for Jagan’s security when he was CM. A new wing with 379 personnel was created in the name of special security group (SSG) to guard him and his family round the clock, according to data from the police department.
While the SSG was dedicated for the security of Jagan and his family members, 439 personnel from other wings including elite commandos of AP police and OCTOPUS commandos were deployed round the clock at his Tadepalli residence.
All the additional security forces which were deployed with government money have been withdrawn with immediate effect after the change of guard in the state. Moreover, Jagan is not the Opposition leader to provide him with all benefits pertaining to that of a cabinet minister. Hence, the security personnel have been reduced.
Jagan created a huge drama when he ignored travelling in the convoy provided by the government and travelled by a personal vehicle when he went to Nandyal to meet the kin of the deceased in the sensational murder case. The Home Minster clarified that the same vehicle which was provided to Chandrababu Naidu by the previous government has been alloted to Jagan now.
