Nag Ashwin’s mythological sci fi-epic ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ featuring stars like Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan has shattered many records and became the highest grossing film of this year so far.
The movie has garnered widespread acclaim critically and commercially alike, amassing over 1000 crores worldwide. This futuristic action drama became the fourth highest-grossing Indian film, following Bahubali 2, KGF 2, and RRR.
Recently, buzz has surrounded the film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ for its nomination in the Best VFX category at the 2025 Oscars. A post that closely resembles the official announcement has been circulating on the social media platform X, leading many to believe that the film has bagged a nomination in this category.
Though the film has stunning VFX with a unique narrative, the ongoing speculations about the Oscars are not true. The Hollywood Reporter released a potential nominee list for the 2025 Oscars, and ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ did not make the cut among the first 26 contenders for consideration. Furthermore, reports suggest that if ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ secures a spot in the Oscar race, the Academy will not announce the final nominations until at least December.
Recently, India submitted ‘Kalki’ as its entry for the 97th Academy Awards, but the Academy did not choose it. Instead, they officially selected Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’ as India’s entry in the Best Foreign Film category.
